Hello Sarah, I am not in the UK, but did want to share my success story with Metformin with you. I have type 1 diabetes and have been on insulin since childhood. I now control my diabetes with an insulin pump. Anyway, I was diagnosed with PCOS after a very thorough work-up due to my not being able to have a period on my own. I was put on Glucophage XR and now take 2000mg/day (1000mg in the morning and 1000mg in the pm). Since starting the Glucophage XR 8 months ago, I have lost 20 lbs. (I wasn't overweight per se to begin, but feel great now!), my acne has almost completely disappeared. My periods have not returned without the use of Clomid, though. Also, my blood sugars are so well controlled now. My daily insulin requirements are down from 50 units/day to 25 units/day and my numbers have never been so steady. It is now rare that I have a glucose reading out of target range. All of these things have helped me to feel so much better. I think it was one of those things where I didn't realize how badly I felt until I felt good again. I hope your doctor will take the time to research the benefits of this drug more thoroughly. If she does not, you may want to consider finding another MD. I know it has made such a difference in my life! Good luck to you! Haley At Tue, 29 Jan 2002, Sarah wrote: >
