Actos Success Story

I just want to encourage those of you out there on Actos (or Met, for that matter)....some REs are leary of allowing us to stay on our insulin sensitizers during pgy, but there is good evidence to do so. Met has its own issues (neural tube defects--take extra folic acid!), but Actos is simply 'unproven' during pgy and is categorized in the US as 'category C'--meaning, don't take it unless the mother REALLY needs it b/c it is unproven. Some drs don't think that we REALLY need it and aggressively campaign to get us off it during pgy.

My DH and I really worked hard w/my RE and OB to maintain my dose of Actos during my pgy, and the end fruit of our labour (no pun intended) just came home with me on Saturday. He is perfect (which baby isn't?), healthy, and has no problems whatsoever.

So work hard to maintain your medication dosage, should you conceive. We are convinced it is the only reason I didn't m/c for a 5th time.
