Re: more spiro and hairloss questionsFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jan 2002 10:21:21 -0600 (CST)
What I can offer is personal experience and info from my RE. Any medication you take daily is metabolised by your body daily--the drug is 'used up' in essence, hence the need to take another dose the next day. Spiro is one of those drugs, as you take it once (or maybe twice, depending on your RE's preference) per day. Being off the stuff for a week will more than adequately 'clean out' your system--remember, it's metabolised daily. If you plan to ttc, then plan to quit spiro at the same time you either a) quit taking bcps (if you're on them), or b) start clomid (if you plan to). For example, I took Clomid and quit spiro at the same time--clomid doesn't make you ovulate immediately, so you have several weeks before spiro could be a danger to a soon-to-be-implanted baby. Make sense? In my time of taking spiro (will be on it again in the future, too), I never "grew back" hair that I had lost to PCOS, only hair that I had lost to tx with a blood thinner (not for PCOS). While pg, I didn't lose any more hair, but I didn't think I grew any more, either. I will be waiting to see what lactation does to the whole process.
