Hi Gilly,Hope this helps

OK first of all Metformin (aka Glucophage..they are the same drung) helpes woman with PCOS because we have a condition known as insulin resistance..it is the opinion of many researches that we all have this and the testing is just not sensitive enough to pick it up..it is the underlaying cause of PCOS.What the Metformin does is help our bodies use all the excess insulin we have(..we have a defect in a cell that is supposed to uptake or absorb the insulin for lack of a better description.)It is this excess insulin in our systems that causes havoc with our hormones and causes weight gain. Once the insulin can be normalized by using Metformin and a low carb diet our hormones should also become more stable thus restoring ovulation, periods and lowering testosterone. This doesnt happen over night..it takes several months to years to undo the damage that insulin resistance has done to our bodies..Some of us give up on the metformin before it has a chance to work because of GI problems and not seeing results fast enough...I say if your RX'd Metformin try to stick with it!

Provera is progesterone...your doctor may RX this if you have not had a period. It induces a periods..usually takes anywere from 7-14 days to work as long as you are not estrogen deficient.I take provera if I have not started within 35 days.

Yasmin is a birth controll pill...it is probably one of the better ones for PCOS because it has an anti androgen effect. But I would be leary of taking birth controll pills if you can not tollorate the side effects...usually being weight gain and mood swings with PCOS...although some do fine on it.I myself can not take any BCP because of the mood swings.

Clomid is a drug that helps you Ovulate. If you are trying to have a baby your doctor may induce a period with Provera and then put you on clomid for 5 days to help you ovulate.

I hope I helped answere your question. Good luck at your doctors vist,Dona
