I have a question and I'd really appreciate any help...

When my family doctor diagnosed me with PCOS several years ago, he refused to give me a referral until I tried a number of his plans for treatment, his theory, I suppose, being that I should then be able to go to a RE armed with a list of things I've tried. (Argh! I'm sooo mad at how long it took to get a referral!) Anyway, I am finally going to see a specialist next week, and I would like to discuss some of the medications I've read others mention. My doctor put me on:

- Marvelon bc - made me mental, still didn't make my periods regular - Diane 35 - helped with the acne, still a little mental, and I gained massive amounts of weight, seemingly overnight while taking it, periods still not regular - Spironolactone - helped with acne & stopped the hair loss on my head a wee bit, but didn't help with the hair growth elsewhere, and made really no difference overall...got my period every 3 to 9 months...? - prozac for the space cadet symptoms that were really a result of the bc's

I've been drug free for several months now, in anticipation of my upcoming appointment. So what I'd really like is a quick summary of what the heck Glucophage, Metformin, Provera, Yasim, Cloromid etc. are and what kind of patient they're suited for. I want to ensure this time, with my new doctor, I don't waste my time and hopefully make some progress. I know this is a big question, so thanks a thousand fold for any help...I'm so ridiculously frustrated it's driving me batty and I am in desperate need of sound advice.
