Dear Jo,

don't give up. Even if the weight loss is not happening you are definitley improving your health and THAT is important. Also weightloss may be very slow - even 1 lb a month would add up to 12 lb in a year....... so keep at it.

As for the low carb - maybe you need to experiment - and don't be too strict. Don't cut out all carbs, but rather cut out refined carbs (white flour products, white rice, sugary foods). Also make sure you are eating enough protein and not too much fat - eating high fat while low carb can sabotage weight loss efforts. Also need to eat small meals frequently (they say each meal should include some protein), particularly if you are prone to hypoglycaemia. Snack when you are hungry - small tub of low fat yoghert, a small handfull of nuts and some dried fruit, a piece of cheese on a wholewheat cracker....

Sometime eating more can actually result in more wieght loss - cause your body gets out of starvation mode. Be patient - it takes years to put on , it can also take years to take off...

Other - have you been tested for hypothryoid - overt or subclinical. That can also be a reason not too lose weight. For women TSH should be between 1 & 2 for optimal (not 5.5 which is the maximum shown in most lab ranges). My doc aims for 1 as 'ideal'.

Best wishes
