Hi William, just to add to what Dr. Sam said - the first Dr. sounds more knowledgeable - testing should be done on certain days and ultrasound is a good way to get a baseline of the situation. The second dr. probably wants to avoid any ackwardness for your daughter - but it is probably more important to get a proper diagnostic baseline and then treatment. Regarding the vaginal ultrasound. It is NOT painful. Only mildly uncomfortable (and the drs should be sensitive and cover you up properly while they do it) and discomfort is more psychchological than physical. It is definitely no worse than a normal pelvic examination (and perhpas better) - other women may disagree - but that is my experience. Although your daughter is young now is the time to be working with a good dr and make sure everything is properly treated then she can avoid complications (physical and psychological) that so many of us had due to long delays in diagnosis. A great book is by Samuel Thathcher - PCOS - the hidden epidemic - it really has all you need to know and well written and detailed. Best wishes to you and your daughter
