Hi, I tend to agree with your statement that Prozak should not be given out for mood swings.Extreme anxiety/panic and agoraphobia and depression-YES!

While Prozac is a god send to others-it may not be for you.

Mood swings are not always suggestive of a chemical imbalance of Serotonin. Hormonal imbalances are.Once again-there is a simple ,inexpensive blood test that doctors could perform to diagnose a seratonin imbalance. Many times, this test will show that one is low in serotonin-other times,it will show that your body actually has more than it needs.I am very, very familiar with the SSRIs'.

There is a fine line that has to be drawn before one is put on Prozac, and I am certain that there will be some women that will disagree with me.

Prozak, lithium and others are absolutely necessary for some women out there, where they have lost control of their life.Getting thru a day without these meds would be so difficult,so in their case-I would say these women need these meds. Yes,doctors are far too quick to hand out a prescrition for Prozac these days. It seems to be the drug of choice for everything. They are giving it to children, for common every day stress of life.

Speak to a qualified mental health care practicioner, rather than an MD.MD's just love writing out these prescritions to get us women off their backs. We walk into a doctor's office-tell our story, and wham-"here,take this prozaC and in about six weeks, you'll feel better, but just give it time".

I see a psychiatrist every single week to help me deal with my Adjustment Disorder with related anxiety and depression and since my problems are hormonal and others,he refuses to try me on any more anti-depressants. I was on Remeron for two months, and it did absolutely nothing for me,rather,it made me more anxious. But again, that is just me.Ask yourself if you think your are really out of control and need some management.

I am still trying to deal with my current issues and belive me,they pose a most difficult task, and if I could take Prozac to take away my anxiety, then I would. The problem is,that I have already high levels in my brain.

Please ladies, don't get angry at me,for posting my opinions,as that is just what they are. I am in no way knocking any of you out there who are currently taking this med,as I have come to realize, that it helps make a difference between a good day and a day from hell.

The best thing to do,is talk to someone that is experienced in dealing with mental health care.

By reading your post-I think you-yourself knows that you don't need it.

If you did,you would know.

Again, there is no offense made to those than choose to take Prozac-it had definitely made a difference for some women whose symptoms were intolerable. Your case sounds as if you have a little PMS,but don't we all.

I am not that familiar Glucophage, but from what research I have done on it and by reading the posts of women,it seems well worth a shot. Actually,I am going to be put on it this week.Possibly I will find some relief, and I hope you will too.

There are going to be side effects from alot of meds, but I would rather address the underlying cause of my mood swings, rather than mask the symtoms, only to find that later, these problems will occur again once the Prozac is terminated.
