Re: Worried and ScaredFrom: Debbie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 Jan 2002 00:09:19 -0600 (CST)
Hi Lori! I have had PCOS since puberty. I was a military dependent for years and the military system is a little behind the curve! I had every test imaginable, laporascopy, hysteroscopy, hsg, had ovarian drilling done and took clomid for years. Finally, my husband got out of the military and I found a great reproductive endocronoligist and the UT Health Science Center here in San Antonio. I had my son, who is now 5, after taking superovulatory drugs. This process worked, but was very expensive. It was worth it to have my son, and at the time there was no other way. In 1999, a participated in a study with glucophage and clomid, and got pregnant with my daughter, who turned one on New Year's Day, after two months. I had taken Clomid for years and did not ovulate once, but that combined with the glucophage did the trick! The one thing I will stress is that you make sure you are monitored closely. In the military they gave me the meds and told me to go home and have Fun! Then they'd do a progesterone test to see if I'd ovulated. This is not monitoring! They need to do ultrasounds to see if your developing any follicles. I did not have a period while I was on the glucophage only either. I had to take provera to induce a period before starting my next cycle, but the glucophage and clomid did induce ovulation. I hope that this info will help. Don't give up. It took years for us and I thought it would never happen. But it pays to educate yourself and be persistant!
Good Luck,
Debbie
