Re: Diabetic Neurophathy (was: I am really scared..)To ReneeFrom: Barbra (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Jan 2002 01:40:23 -0600 (CST)
I'm with you that the gravity dependency is significant. That would rule out arterial insufficiency (that gets pale with elevation, then cherry/brick red upon lowering down below the heart, then it resolves a little bit later. People with arterial insufficiency prefer their legs dependent, because gravity helps blood flow. However, your description of claudication (pain with walking) is consistent with arterial insuffiency, where the pain is muscle being damaged because the blood flow is not sufficient for metabolic need. Walking can improve circulation through the development of new collateral circulation. > Hi Renee, I am sorry-I still don't understand it. You state that you possibly agree with the gravity dependency being significant, which rules out arterial insufficiency.I am a bit confused....so can you just elaborate a little.I am definitely not familiar with this type of terminology when it comes to arteries and veins. What I basically am asking advice on(in just plain laymen terms,,,,I'm illiterate here,,,,lol!),is what do you think caused my legs and feet to turn purple/blue upon standing or sitting? When I move my legs...the color is normal. Also, when raised,as I stated, the color is normal. They told me that I had no cirulatory disorder.I quote"you have what is a normal response to the blood flow upon standing or sitting".Then I got the diagnosis of Raynauds from the rhematologist.Oh,yeah right-purple legs are normal!I have no vericose veins either.I don't smoke and I am not diabetic anylonger(HMMM),I am not overweight,I just feel like sh*t.! Yes,your suggestion about going to another major city was advised by my doctors. I am still seeing one more specialist here, then they are starting the Mayo Clinic adventure..proposing it to the college of physicians and surgeons,as I have had no relief,no treatment what so ever the last year accept my own homepathy and herbs and vitamins and minerals etc. I must tell you that I am referred to as "The Puzzle" with the doctors. This I find no joke! I mean I must be desperate....I have already resorted to "Quackery" Medicines and I do not know why they don't do something for my IR. Then to top off this whole mess,I discover I have PCOS....and again,I quote'It can lead to alot of serious problems without being on the proper diet". DUHU!As if I haven't followed the diets prescribed by my MD and last endo, which was the protein power diet, but increased carbs lately,as I couldn't tolerate it and then the other doctor said it was posing a little stress on my kidneys,,as If I need that too> I'm not whining-I'm asking for advice,so I can be well informed when I go in for my next appointment. They called me to come in next week for the results of biopsy on the right ovary,,but actually,I was so scared,I think I understand that they did on both. This is really getting me confused,as I have done my homework on the Raynauds and there is no way that I have that.I don't care how may degrees this doctor has...I don't have one single symptom of it. Seems as if they are just trying to appease me. Raynauds is when the vessels constrict due to cold or stress or nicotine...then they go from white to blue to red normal blood flow has occured. It is also common,in the toes and fingers .That is the research that I have done and I know of someone that worked for me with the syndrome and her fingertips would just blanch, then go different colors. This was because the area we worked in had the airconditioning on full blast. She had to quit the job because of it. I seen others with the syndrome at my lupus support group...and again...no way...I don't have that. I raise my legs in bed with a pillow under the knees and that is basically the only time that I don't feel discomfort.I still feel a tiny pulsation, but it is tolerable compared to the rest of the day.uggg! When I do find the strenght during the course of the day to exercise...my legs don't hurt. This would then rule out the arthersclerosis,I imagine. I am sorry to be such a pest, but as reading thru your posts,I admire your knowledge and the way it is presented to others.Very informative indeed! I wish I could follow in the zen footsteps.....I have a Zen Garden..does that cojnt?lol!Just trying to make a little light of this.. Thanks again Renee, you are most helpful.
