My Dr. put me on Metforming and Spironolactone last week. I have Very regular menses, to the day, my hormone levels were normal, no excess androgens, no excess hair growth, although I've had more pimples than usual, I've begun washing my face better and they've gone away. She ran a chem panel on me and a GTT, and found that my glucose levels were excellent as well as HbA1c and cholesterol and the whole works. I am obese, and continue to gain weight very rapidly however, have horrible menstrual cramps with a pretty heavy flow. This is why she decided to put me on these drugs. I'm supposed to take 1 tablet twice a day, but she told me to take half of the tablet twice just to get used to it. THe night I began my treatment (last week), I had Extreme lactic acidosis, abdominal cramping, nausea, and headaches. These symptoms have continued although they have lessened. I called her the very next day to let her know of the symptoms, and she wasn't sure why I reacted to it that why, but that I should take half of the tablet once a day adn work myself up slwoly. However, I'm still having the side effects with just that one dose. Should I continue taking this medication even though it's causing all these sife effects, and without the diagnosable symptoms of PCOS? One more thing, my former fiance and I tried hard for almost a year in becoming pregannt and were unsuccessful. Any ideas?
