Re: Spironolactone QuestionFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 13 Jan 2002 15:36:54 EST
All I know about Spironolactone is that it WILL cause major, major birth defects. I was on it myself as a teenager and my doctor told me that when I wanted to try for children that I needed to be off of it for at least 6-9 months for there to be no side effects at all. He said that the reason for this is that the medicine blocks all male hormones in your body to reduce the hair growth, and if one were to become pregnant with a boy, for instance, they would be horribly deformed, and of course, with a girl, she would still need a little male hormone to come out normal. If I were you, I'd go to another doctor and get checked out to make sure that absolutely nothing is wrong with your baby. Because, as far as I'm concerned, that wasn't a very wise choice of medicines for you doctor to put you on knowing you were wanting to, or already had conceived. Amanda
