Rash as side effect of Metformin?!From: Michele (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 3 Jan 2002 19:01:39 -0600 (CST)
I've been taking metformin since July. I started at 500mg which was increased to 1000mg in October. Within the two weeks following the increase I developed an awful rash--raised red spots about the size of a dime covering my stomach, chest, back, legs and shoulders--which has yet to go away, despite treatment with several different products. I saw a couple women had posted similar complaints on the main PCOS page, but when I asked my endocrinologist about it she claimed that in all the years she's been prescribing metformin that she's NEVER seen anyone break out in a rash from it. We decided not to stop met and try some topical stuff to make it go away first, because the metformin seems to be helping otherwise. I'm looking for another medical opinion, from someone who frequently deals with us PCOS-ers. Can metformin cause a rash?
