Re: pcos and insulin resistanceFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 20 Dec 2001 11:10:40 -0600 (CST)
>the doctor did a insulin test and it came back that i do not have any problems with sugar.< You didn't mention what test the dr. ran, but just b/c you don't have a problem with sugar (i.e., you are not diabetic) doesn't mean your insulin isn't out of whack. Insulin problems are at the root of PCOS. I would recommend talking to your dr for more information--asking for example, "Am I insulin resistant?" "What was my fasting insulin level?" "Are you willing to treat me with insulin sensitizers to try to get to the root of PCOS?" and other such questions. Most PCOSers are not diabetic (they don't "have problems" with sugar either), but if this condition goes on untreated long enough, your pancreas will quit and you will be rendered diabetic. Take some time to search the archives--there's lots of information on insulin resistance, how our bodies work, pancreas function, etc., and you'll find it helpful in your struggle with PCOS. Good luck!
