angie saw palmetto apparently does the same thing that spiro does, that is, blocks the excess androgens in your body. That means that is stops facial hair growth AND head hair loss - the two different types of hair are sensitive to androgens in different ways.

I would look in the phone book just under "medicine" and see if it has a subset for alternative medicine maybe. Or, just keep asking around and see if anyone knows of a recommendation for a good herbalist. Try health food stores!
