While you a e entitled to your opinion, you do not have the right to TELL people not to take anti-depressants. (admit it or not, that's what you're saying) T ese medications help make the difference between a good day and a horrib e day for many people, but this does not make them weak. I'm very sorry or what happened to your friend, however this does not happen to every p rson on anti-depressants. Taking this type of medication is not the only thing to do to combat this illness. Seeking a good psychologist and help from close family and friends is another step we must all take. For you o say get a pet, exercise, and deal with it is so upsetting because whil that is the way you choose to "remedy" your problem, it's not a healthy way for others to. You sound so "dark-ages" that it's frightening. Do yo honestly think that we don't do any sort of research on medication that we're going to take? Almost ALL medication has sid >e effects, but sometim s the good out weighs the bad Barbara. I wish you continued success with your "deal with it" mentality, and hope you can over come depression. In the mean time, can't you wish the same for others who choose a different method of coping? ( FYI, it's Prozac, not Prozak in case you want to d some more research) >
>>>----- Original Message ----- Christine, Upon reading your letter...I sense alot of misplaced agggression, and I am disappointed in the way you came across. No,I am not a doctor, nor am I uneducated,in fact,I have had a medical profession in the past. In reponse to you being very nit picky in me,erroneously spelling prozac.....sorry....I did my research....more than you can imagine. I thought this was a support group where people were entitled to be respectful of one another...not argue over opinions. In my letters that I post,I am honest and just trying to offer advice to alternative approaches to anxiety and depression of which I suffered badly. I have been in group therapy, where I am CLEARLY SEEING WHAT THESE MEDICATIONS HAVE DONE TO SEVERAL,ONCE WELL ADJUSTED INDIVIDUALS. I have had many private letters asking for advice on how to cope, also, these women writing to me about their horrible adventures on these meds. I consider this group not to be for me! If you can be brainwashed by taking these meds...by all means do so. It is your body. As of now,I personally would like to say that I have felt and feel the way many of you do,and can understand the suicidal tendencies and the way these meds make you feel. Hey,then why not smoke some weed.....same thing,as far as I am concerned. Wake up Christine and smell the roses. You cannot float thru life on a "happy pill" I don't see too many posts about women seeking out professional councilling...that it what you mention and that is one thing that I totally agree with. I thought this group would help me,but in the long run,has actually made me a little angry at the way a couple of you responded with such anger over simple, honest advice. Again,if you want to be rude...my name is spelled:Barbra. I consider myself out of this...I don't belong here at all.
-- Sincerely, Barbra Camara
