Hi I agree with Sue, unless you have a family history of kidney or heart problems I would think it isn't a problem to take it.Sometimes Doctors will order a blood panel 3 months after starting Metformin to make sure you don't develope kidney or liver problems from taking the metformin which is also rare but could happen.Doctors are now learning that you Don't have to be IR to benifit from taking metformin with PCOS so a lot of doctors are no longer testing for IR before RXing metformin as long as they have other confirmation of there Diagnosis such as high LH/FSH,High Testosterone and DHEAS,and cysts present on a ultrasound along with our other wonderfull symptoms such as lack of menses and excess hair or lack there of.
