Re: Should Any Blood Tests Be performed BEFORE prescribing MetaforminFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Nov 2001 09:39:52 -0600 (CST)
>Should I have had any blood tests first to make sure that I have no kidney or heart disease?< Kidney and/or heart disease are not things that you wouldn't know about--the symptoms, signs, or other indicators would have shown up, esp. if you got your diagnosis (dx) after bloodwork. Ultimately, the warnings on met are for those in poorer health and the elderly--those who are actually diabetic are at a much greater risk for heart disease and/or kidney disease than those who aren't. Although untreated PCOS can lead to those ailments as well. If you had bloodwork done, request a copy for your files and keep it on hand. That way, you have a baseline with which to compare future results as you continue in treatment (tx). It also makes you a more informed patient, and that makes you your best ally when talking to specialists and getting appropriate healthcare. Good luck!
