IT IS NORMAL<HOWEVER< YOU SHOULD BE HAVING YOUR LIVER AND KIDNEY BLOOD WORK DONE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT HAVING ANY SIDE AFFECTS. MET CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THIS. ALSO I WAS ON THIS DRUG BEFORE I GOT PREGNATE FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. THE SIDE AFFETS DO GO AWAY.

Hi! I am looking for a couple answers and don't really know where to go. Looking on the internet there are very many different places to go and not really in specific. Since you have been on metabolife for awhile was wondering if you can just answer stuff. I know everyone is different. I do not have PCOS and am interested what that is. I am on Trilevlin which is a form of birth control that is a little stronger than orthotricyclen(the popular pill) so I have been told. I want to make sure I will not get pregnant cause I have been through enough already but also want to lose some weight where I won't gain it back so easily. I worked my butt off on depo (the birth control shot) and lost 40 lbs well about 4 months later is was all back on cause of depo so this is why I am going this route and that's why I got off the depo. If you have any insight it would be much appreciated thanks for your help kodie At Fri, 2 Nov 2001, Dona wrote: >

Subject: 4 months of metformin... no change but feel sick?!?
Message-ID: <anonymous@obgyn.net>

My consultant put me on metformin after I started getting migraines from
the contraceptive pill Dianette.  I've been on Metformin for 4 months
now and the hirsutism isn't any better.  I've had one period during this
time.  I've been told to increase my dose from 2 x 500mg to 3 x 500mg.  I
increased it last week but due to severe nausea and vomiting decided to
go back to the 2 x 500mg dose.  Am beginning to wonder whether it's
worth it.  Can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes Metformin to
work? In addition, any tricks on how to overcome the nnausea, so that i
can go back up to the recommended dose, would be much appreciated.

I've never been tested for abnormal insulin resitance levels, although
my fasting glucose levels are normal.  Metformin was prescribed by my
consultant as a drug for tackling the source of PCOS (was first
diagnosed with PCOS 10 years ago when 18).

Are you supposed to be tested for insulin resitance first? It seems odd
to prescribe Metformin without knowing if I'm insulin resistant -
doesn't it?

Thanks.

Claire,

i've been on MET for about a month now.  like you, i gradually increased
to 1500mg/day.  i also had a hard time with the 2x to 3x jump.  i was
never nauseous, but i always felt very tired and dizzy, like i was going
to fall over.  i've found that taking the MET in the MIDDLE of my meals
helps a LOT.  for instance, if i'm eating cereal for breakfast, i eat
half of it, take the MET, and then finish it.  i've also had to start
eating better (i live in NYC and virtually everything i had was an "on
the go" sort of thing)--now, i try to eat balanced yet filling meals.
and drink TONS of water.

really, the "eating in the middle" thing works wonders for me.

also, i'm not IR.  i go to a PCOS specialist who assures me that he has
many patients with PCOS who are not IR who take MET and have lots of
success with it.

it's tough, but i'm going to stick with it.  i hope you start doing
better!!

Sarah

I had normal periods up until I took birth control pills in June then
they came every month but only for a day or two.  Last month my period
came for the full 5 days as normal.  I went to the doctor in Sept and
she told me I might have PCO becuase of my 2/7 lh/fsh level, but I
thought that PCO is from the onset of your periods and I never had a
problem until after the pills.  Also I gain weight around my waist then
when my period comes it disappears and I go back down to normal is this
a normal thing or should I be worried?
