Re: glucophage and getting pregnantFrom: Lori (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 Nov 2001 20:37:52 -0600
Hi Naz- I am sorry about your miscarriage - that is a rough thing to go through - I have had 2. I am not sure if this is your first miscarriage or not. If it isn't then I would not just assume that the problem is the glucophage (although it most likely is since stopping it before the end of the 1st trimester can cause a miscarriage) and would ask your OB/GYN to run some additional tests to make sure you don't have something immunology related going on. That is what my problem was - a disorder that causes my blood to clot during pregnancy. A good site is http://www.rialab.com if you want more info. on recurrent miscarriages. Good news - staying on the glucophage can actually help reduce the chance of miscarriage. You are right - one should take extra folic acid if on glucophage while pregnant. I am also on glucophage (I wasn't during my miscarriages) and I take my prenatals plus 4mg folic acid a day - we are TTC. Please don't give up! : ) Lori ----------------------
