You'll have to ask someone else about the herbs I'm afraid... I know
some women have been quite sucessful with them but it's not something I
know much about.
As for diets, it's pretty personal. My own, personal choice would be a
balanced diet (something like the Zone, with plenty of protein and
moderate fats) but with the carbs being low-GI carbs. But different
diets work for different people, it's just a matter of finding one that
works best for you and your lifestyle!
