Re: Glucophage XR and no periods?From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 Nov 2001 01:28:38 -0600 (CST)
It takes quite a long time not only to build up to the correct dosage of Glucophage, but for it to start changing your body around and correcting the problems that are there. It also depends on how severe you PCOS is before you started treatment - it took a long time to get that way, and it will take a while to change it back! Some women see their cycles returning at 2 or 3 months, some after 6, some longer. A few don't see resumption of cycles on Glucophage alone and need time to treat other causes of amennhorrea (which I spelled wrong I think) like thyroid trouble or severe obesity. Given that, if after 6 months or so you haven't seen any changes either in symptoms or drastic changes in bloodwork, consider upping your dose. Maximum recommended by BMS is 2550mg. They also recommend slowly increasing your dose until you get relief or you reach that point.
