Re: maybe Dr. Sam can help - On Glucophage and weight lossFrom: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 06 Nov 2001 20:09:31 -0800
Muriel, << Now think about it. If insulin resistance is the CAUSE of your weight gain, and Glucophage is the SOLUTION to insulin resistance, then why would you not lose the weight?>> I wish it were that simple. Life would be a whole lot easier. Glucophase is not THE solution. It is one piece of the puzzle. Unfortunately, it's not a cure-all. That's why not everyone responds the same way. <<Explain to me how someone gained weight in the first place if they were in fact eating healthy and excercising regularily?>> When I was in high school, I danced most days. I had my own dance classes twice a week, and was a student teacher for other classes. Plus, I walked 2 miles or so from school to the dance studio. (My aunt was a dance teacher.) So, I was pretty active. I ate decently, not great, not lousy. We didn't have a lot of money, so that cut down my food volume a bit in and of itself. I was still very heavy. I was over 200 pounds in high school (I remember one particularly difficult ice-breaker game I had to participate in once where you had to get signature of people who met the criteria. One was "someone over 200#. I lied, and denied it every time someone came to me.) Sometimes simple logic fails when the system is not simple. PCOS is actually quite complex, with many facets that need to be considered. It's not a simple "tab A into slot B" type thing. That's why no two women present differently, each responds differently to different treatments, and we all feel differently about this condition. We wish it were simple. Then, we could fix it, move on, and wouldn't need this list and this community. Renee
