I'm sorry Murial but Glucophage is RX'd for insulin resistance and PCOS even in non IR woman because the thoery is now that we all are IR to one extent or another because PCOS is a genetic defect in the insulin reuptake cells. Some of us will loose weight because it is a SIDE AFFECT of the medication that some will have..not all.Read your insert for the medication it will clearly state that weight loss is a SIDE AFFECT.Your lucky that you have this side affect and you are loosing weight with no dieting.IF you read the product info it also say's it causes ANOREXIA of all things as another side affect.Again not everyone will get this. Not all woman with PCOS who are insulin resistant are obese they are on glucophage to level out there insulin levels and hormones. Not because they need to loose weight.Diabetics also take metformin to controll there diabetes and are not always fat.I myself did not start taking metformin to loose weight, but so that I can get pregnant.I will be doing metformin, provera to induce and then clomid.Because of what I know about metformin I KNOW that I will not loose weight on it unless I happen to have that side affect, but loosing weight is not why I take it at this point of the game.I was on Actos before and I misscarried. I I desided to switch because metformin helps prevent m/c and is not as dangerous to take during pregnancy as actos is.I am insulin resitant My levels were extremely high ...which worries me about becomming diabetic. Since taking metformin my levels have dropped to WNL.I can stand a few unpleasant side affects to have a healthy baby and a healthy body.I do follow a low carb diet and I have lost 15 pounds by doing so..they did not magically disappear, but I am also 36 years old and as you get older it gets harder to loose weight with or without IR!When I was younger I had a much easier time loosing weight even though I probably have insulin problems all my life.I hope you understand this and relize why some of us still take it even if we feel sick on it.also remember that these side affects are almost always temporary even loosing weight without doing anything. Go back and read archives of woman who lost weight for a short time or up to a year then NOTHING. it stopped happening as fast as it had started. The nausia side affects for me only lasted a few weeks and they are gone now...it was worth dealing with it to feel great now and be able to get pregnant! Sincerely,Dona

TTC 3 years 2 misscarriages.1 live birth ..died from heart defect 12 days old. PCOS since 12 years old.Dx 2 years ago.Secondary infertility.heavy set but not obese.I'm 36 .Metformin 2550 mg. Provera 5mg...first round of clomid.
