Another glucophage question -- any ideas?

Howdy,

I didn't get any replies to my last post about this, so I thought I'd pose it again in a different way. I just started glucophage 10 days ago, beginning with 500mg/day and working up to 1,000mg/day. In that span, I have also cut my carbs back to less than 100g per day and increased my exercise routine. I have lost 13 pounds in 10 days. I want to be excited about this, but I'm nervous it'll just come piling back on once my stomach-upset from the glucophage wears off.

I read an article last night (old one from USA Today) about PCOS, which mentioned in an offhand way that many people lose weight from glucophage because of the gastrointestinal side effects. In others words, it credited the weight loss to the nausea/diarrhea. I thought the weight loss resulted because insulin levels, a primary cause of weight gain, were normalized. I hope it's not just the nasty stomach that made me lose weight! So why does glucophage make some people lose weight. Has anyone lost weight on it without having upset stomach problems?

Anybody have any thoughts on this?
