Re: Provera, clomid and herbsFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Nov 2001 08:44:54 -0600 (CST)
>i also started taking herbs. they are black cohosh, vitex, saw palmetto, and red clover. Will these interfere with the clomid?? do you have any idea if these types of pills work?< what is your goal? To get pg? If so, you REALLY NEED TO TALK TO A DR about what you are taking in terms of herbs. Herbs are not harmless and safe--they are natural, but they were used by doctors for real medication before there were compounds created in a lab. Saw Palmetto is what concerned me the most; what I know of it--it is supposed to stem the tide of androgens in your system. Essentially, it's the same as taking spironolactone, and YOU NEVER WANT TO TAKE AN ANTI-ANDROGEN WHILE PREGNANT!!! See what I'm saying? If you are self-medicating and your RE (or whoever you're seeing) doesn't know that, then you put yourself and any potential baby you might conceive at risk as well. Please, if you're not under the care of an herbalist or naturalist who is working in conjunction with an endocrine specialist, talk to your dr about the herbs and what they might do in addition to the actual medicine you've been Rx-d.
