Re: Diets and excersise, or lack thereof

Because PCOS is about so, so much more than weight gain. I am very heavy and I am also on 3000mg Metformin. I havent lost a pound, even though I've been taking it since 1999. But being on it makes me indescribably healthier than being off it. It lowers my inslin levels dramatically. It lowers my testosterone. It helps control my horrible, disabling hypoglycemia. Eventually it will help me to start ovulating again. Then it will help me conceive and help me to carry a baby to term. It helps me avoid atheroscolosis (sp?) and heart disease. It helps me avoid becoming a diabetic. It gives me more energy during the day and lets me sleep quite a bit better at night. It reduces the severity of my facial hair. It reduces the number of painful cysts I get on my inner thighs and armpits. It keeps my depression from being as bad as it was. It drastically reduces my mood swings and in that way not only makes me happier, it saved my marriage. It seems to help my dry sensitive skin stand up to the world a bit better. It prevents my acne from being as bad as it could be.

But even more important to me than all of this, taking it is my act of defiance against this disease. Taking it makes me feel like I am doing something good for my health instead of allowing PCOS to make me sicker and sicker and steal my life from me. Taking Metformin is the action I can do against a very scary and severe disease.

I'm glad you lost weight while taking it. You know you're one of the lucky ones who experienced that. Well, one of the overweight ones who did. Many PCOS'ers are not overweight at all and still take Metformin to protect their health and wellbeing.

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly but... Why on earth would anyone NOT take this medicine when they have a medical condition that warrants it?
