Dr. - Medication after some PCOS remission after pregnancy?From: Tina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 3 Nov 2001 18:04:17 -0600 (CST)
My periods have been every 27-28 days and free testosterone levels have been normal since my first pregnancy 11 years ago. Excess body hair, thin scalp hair, and weight are still problems. I had been on BCPs, changing to Met the last three years. The gastro side effects never fully abated. I recently tried Actos but had strange heart palpitations and edema. Right now I'm not on any PCOS meds and am wondering if I should even be on any? I had all the classic symptoms prior to my first pregnancy and was diagnosed at age 18 and put on BCPs. I was also diagnosed as "borderline diabetic" (not sure what that meant) at age 13. I'm afraid I may increase my diabetes and heart disease risks by not treating if I still need to. Are there other tests that might indicate a need to continue treatment for PCOS? I live in a rural area and this is my best source for help. Thanks, Tina
