Re: side effect of Glucophage? to Sandra and LaurenFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Oct 2001 11:19:17 -0600 (CST)
It also helps to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth--that encourages deep breathing (belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing). It's what you do unconsciously when you are asleep (belly breathing), and what babies do naturally. Children actually learn how to do shallow breathing (ribcage or high lung breathing)--so if it can be learned, it can also be unlearned. There are many out there (some whackos, IMHO) who claim that belly breathing can cure all sorts of ailments. I don't necessarily buy that, but it is very helpful to calm oneself and to learn to increase your actual lung volume.
