Glucophage dosage too low?

Hi, I just started taking glucophage this week for PCOS -- starting with 500mg, then working up next week to 1000mg daily. Everything I have read says that 1500 mg daily is the lowest effective dosage. Is anyone else on 1000mg and does it work? Should I ask the doctor to try 1500 instead? I'm very confused. Thanks
