Danielle, welcome! Pcos is hardest to deal with upon first diagnosis I think. It sounds pretty scary all in all - but the good news is that you were diagnosed!! That gives you someplace to start, and puts you in a better spot than a whole lot of other women around the world. Also, there is treatment available (mainly glucophage (aka metformin)- and because you are so young, I'm sure you will see many new treatments available in your lifetime. From your post I notice 1) you are not on glucophage 2) you are on birth control and 3)you appear to have blood sugar problems (cravings, mood swings). First off, you should be on glucophage, especially with the extreme symptoms you are having. There is no reason to live life so uncomfortably when there is treatment. Secondly, birth control (except for a couple different brands) often make insulin resistance worse. Yes, a couple can help acne, but it's not worth the risk - I'm suspecting that since your dr. didn't put you on glucophage, they didn't put you on the proper brand of birth control either. Do some research and make sure it's the right thing for you if you want to keep taking it. 3)Cravings and mood swings are often easily controlled by glucophage. Perhaps you should talk to your dr. or see a different dr. that specializes in endocrine disorders (i.e. an endocrinologist or Reproductive endocrinologist) If you are anywhere near the Indianapolis area I can recommend a dr. named Dawn Ayers. She is pretty aggresive with treatment and very kind as well. If you'd like more info, just let me know.
