Hi Danielle -

Welcome to the board! I think you will really like everyone here. I have learned a lot over the past couple of months that I have participated here and have found lots of support.

You may want to browse the archives - they are loaded with information and answer a lot of our questions. In fact, it wasn't long ago that some messages went back and forth about herbal treatments that some people are trying out (last month).

I know it is rough going through all of this - especially when your still in college and have all the other students around. Just remember that the PCOS doesn't define who you are - you do. I also was heavy all through high school - and unfortunately I loved baton and was in majorettes - not an easy place for a heavier girl to be! I just gave it my all and by my Junior year was head majorette.

One thing you have in your favor - you know you have PCOS at an early age. I was 30 before I found out - I also just found out this year. You can learn about it and not only treat it but also avoid things that make it progress. For example, I was on birth control pills for years to regulate my periods - that is not good for us, instead I should have been using glucophage. You also know to watch your refined sugars and can learn more about how your body processes foods so that you can help prevent the development of diabetes by controlling the foods you eat.

Don't worry so much about everything - instead just keep learning and trying to do what you can to help yourself - and cross any bridges when you get there. Lots of women with PCOS still have children - those that have difficulty conceiving have options to help. Yes, not everyone is successful but many are. I myself have been pregnant twice now. Unfortunately I miscarried both times but that was not due to the PCOS.

Soooo, welcome again and I look forward to hearing more from you on the board.
