from bcps to MetFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Oct 2001 07:43:53 -0500 (CDT)
Hi guys, after 6 years of being on and off bc pills, i've decided to switch to Met with the hope that it will start inducing my period. i was diagnosed with PCOS when i was in college (19 yrs old), and am on the mild-side in terms of symptoms (excess hair, acne, slight elevation of testosterone levels). my ovaries are covered with cysts. when left to my own devices, i only get a period 3 or 4 times a year. i've been taking Spiro & Vaniqa for about 5 months, and it's done wonders for my skin and excess hair. still, i am nervous about taking Met. i am very thin and have insulin levels that are in the "normal range." i thought that Met was only for people who were insulin resistant. i asked my doctor about this and he said he's had PCOS patients w/ low weights/normal insulin levels take Met and it's worked for them, that it's better than taking bc pills (since there's a link between them and diabetes....especially risky for pcosers), and that it's at least worth a try. i am curious to know what any of you think about this, and if there are any people out there who are like me and have had success with Met. Thanks very much! Sarah
