Tara - I understand what you mean about the diarrhea with the metformin. My first day on it - I almost had an accident at work. I was concentrating so hard on not using the bathroom on myself that I felt like I was gonna pass out. I use imodium a.d. about every other day. Sometimes maybe only twice a week. I've cut back my carbs and sugars and over the last few months and have had very few bad stomach days since. Imodium or some other anti-diarrheal may be just about the only option to keep the bowel problems under control. Unless someone else knows another tactic. Depending on how long you've been on metformin it may just be a matter or time before your body gets used to it. Anyway good luck - hope there is some comfort in knowing that you are not alone with this problem.
