Hi Katie! Unfortunately, I do not know of a good doctor in your area but you may very well want to check into metformin. I was diagnosed with PCOS by my ob/gyn in Oct of 2000. I had not had a period in 7 months and had gained a lot of weight in a very short period of time even though I am VERY active and somewhat conscientious about what I eat. At that time, I was craving sweets and bread, and every other carbohydrate on the face of the earth. My gyn did an ultrasound and found the little "pearls" in my ovaries then put me on 850mg twice a day. I had a lot of stomach problems with it for the first month or so, then it subsided. I still had an occasion bout of diarhea though. But in 1 year, I have lost 26lbs, and brought my blood sugar down to a reasonable level and am now able to control my sugar through diet and exercise. My doctor told me that sometimes the body just needs to be "reset" so to speak but advised that if i should start gaining weight again, to start the meds again and she has determined that I am once again fertile. Well, good luck to all of you who suffer this condition. I wish you well and God Bless!
