Everyone responds differently to any medication of course, so you must take that into account. I have been taking 2000mg for almost five months and during this time I have been on a lower calorie/lower fat diet and have consistantly lost 1.5lbs per week. My skin is almost blemish free. My moods are more stable. That is about all I felt until one day last month I had eaten lunch and when I was finished I got up, went to the kitchen and started scavenging for sugar, thinking I could not possibly ever get enough and feeling this overwhelming sense of dejavu. I was nervous and uncomfortable and felt exactly as I had for so many years before taking meds. I went to my pill box and found I had not taken my Glucophage the day before. To me, this is the best change I could have possibly had. I no longer feel the need to try to control my blood sugar by eating food I am not hungry for. My mom is taking 500mg, which is really low and she still has terrible sugar cravings. I would recommend that if you do not have any positive or expected changes that you talk to your dr. about upping your dosage. 1000mg is on the low end, if it works for you that's wonderful, but if it doesn't, don't be shy when talking to your dr. because many women require at least 1500mg to see results. Also, you can try to lower your carbohydrate intake and up your excercise - and that, along with the Glucophage you are now taking will help alleviate a lot of your symptoms and lessen the risks that come along with this condition. I have read that people start to see real results after about 2 months on their full dosage. So be patient and remember that the changes occur over a period of time, to the point when like me, you will not truly feel how much you've improved until you yourself forget to take your medication the night before! :) Good luck.
