Carbohydrates and Sugars

Actually, sugars are a type of carb.

Carbohydrates come in two types: simple and complex. The simple carbs are the sugars. They are small molecules, relatively. There are simple and complex sugars. Glucose, fructose, and maltose are simple sugars. They combine to make complex sugars, such as sucrose (table sugar), dextrose, and lactose. However, these larger molecules break apart very easily in the body to become the simple sugars again.

Complex carbs are the startches. They are chains of simple sugars. So, they also break down to the simple sugars (often glucose) easily in the body, but it takes a little more time (not much though--think about how fast a saltine cracker dissolves in your mouth). So, they are essentially sugars as well, in the long run.
