Glucose tolerance test with insulin - on glucophage xr?

Hi I had a fasting insulin done when 1) I was sick and on antibiotics, 2) on day 4 of my cycle, the tests results conflict with my own experience - I have all the symptoms of insulin resistance and problems with glucose (and my father has type 2 diabetes which means I have a 50% chance of developing insulin resistance from what I have read) but my results were 11.7 (6-27) which is normal - or perhaps low since I am overweight - BMI is 29. I have been reading a new book by Elizabeth Vliet, MD called "Women, weight and hormones" she says that insulin should be tested at the end of a woman's cycle.

I am going to ask my doctor to give me another test but I'd rather have the glucose tolerance test with insulin, will I need to go off the glucophage xr, I just started on 500mg last week. I want accurate results, I want to be sure I get the proper level of medication for treatment.

BTW I have noticed improvements. I started a zone type low carb, no sugar diet, and have been good about it, and cut out diet soda, pretzles, chips, etc, and a couple of days later added the glucophage, I have experienced a reduction in my symptoms - fuzzy thinking, difficulty concentrating, racing heart, etc.
