Hi Lori,
>From what I have read, and I am no expert, PCOS beleived to be caused by
insulin resistance. Diabetes is just one step further - and many people
with PCOS end up with diabetes. Treatment for borderline diabetes would
be more or less identical to PCOS.... so perhaps it doesn't matter
which diagnosis you use, the treatment approach is the same.
Different people get different degrees of symptoms with PCOS so I guess
your symptoms alone may or may not be enough. Diagnosis is based on
hormone levels, insulin and other blood tests, symptoms and family
history. I would think that the diagnosis would normally be pretty
clear, as long as they have ruled out other hormonal problems that may
cause similar symptoms (ie. hypothryroid, etc.)
Absence or presence of Ovarian cysts do not rule out or confirm the
diagnosis. Miscarriage, particularly 1st trimester, are also very
common in PCOS.... :-(! Your description still does sound like PCOS.
Don't know if my comment is any help. Best wishes and keep well.
