Glucophage vs. ClomidFrom: Bubba (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Sep 2001 13:03:41 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Everyone! I haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading here and there when I get a few minutes. I've been very busy with a new part time job along with my full time job. As many of you probably know, not quite everything gets done when you're not at home to supervise, so that takes up more time too. Anyway, I just returned from my follow-up dr's appt after taking glucophage for 3 months. My Dr. was very pleased with what he's seen so far. I took in my BBT charts and they're obviously bi-phasic, which means I'm ovulating again, though my cycles are still 40+ days. He decided to up my glucophage to 1500 mg/day to see if we can shorten my cycle to be closer to 28 days. We got into a discussion about the pros/cons of glucophage and told me about a study he saw recently, thought I would share. He didn't tell me who or where, just said it was a very small study so he's not sure how much weight to put on it, but it was comparing glucophage and clomid. Ovulation rates were similar between the two meds, but he said the study showed that miscarriage rates were lower with glucophage than with clomid. How much lower I don't know, guess I should have asked for more details! His theory was that glocophage results in a more natural ovulation because it is getting at the root cause and straightening all the hormones etc. out, and that clomid is more artificial resulting in a lower quality ovulation - and is only treating the symptoms. Anyway, just thought I would share. Hugs to all.
