Possible misdiagnosis??From: Lori (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Sep 2001 08:49:25 -0700
I am starting to question my diagnosis. Does anyone know how easy it is to diagnose PCOS? The reason I wonder is because I have been diagnosed with PCOS but I do not have cysts on my ovaries (or at least I didn't in May of 2000 when I had specialized ultrasounds done to look for cysts and couldn't get one done this year because of my pregnancies which they said would make it look like I had no cysts), I don't have any unusual facial hair other than 2 or 3 whiskers that I just keep pulling out, I have not had problems getting pregnant (1 pregnancy was natural, the second only took 1 cycle of chlomid), the doctors feel that 500mg of glucophage is all I need, and even though my periods are irregular, they do come once every couple of months. I AM overweight (210lbs and 5'8") and I carry my weight in the middle, and blood tests show that I have insulin resistance. Is it possible that I am closer to being borderline diabetic than PCOS? I am just questioning a lot these days since I have had 2 miscarriages this year. I don't want to offend my OBGYN by questioning his diagnosis unless I know that it makes sense to. -Lori
