Re: PCOS, bcpills and yeast infectionsFrom: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Sep 2001 07:31:20 -0700
Sarah, Have you talked to your doctor about why you keep getting yeast infections? It can be associated with several condidtions, including diabetes. Diabetics get more frequent yeast infections. (It's also an ARC-AIDS related complex.) Perhaps there is is another apporach available. Recently, my dermatologist asked if I'd be mad at him if I got a yeast infection if he gave me antibiotics for a strange rash I had. I told him not if he gave me Diflucan too. I never take antibiotics without Diflucan. I don't believe ATBs change the pH permanently. They should be out of your system by now. My hunch is that you haven't restores the natural flora (bacteria) yet. Have you eaten yogurt with active cultures? That can help. In the past, my husband has suggested actually applying it to the vaginal opening, to get better transmission of the bacteria to the tract. (By eating, it only gets there after passing through the GI tract and coming out the anus and passing over the skin bridge to the vagina.) It makes sense, but I've never gotten over the squeemish factor to do it. But, if I was getting them as often as you, I would probably get over it and try it. Renee
