I don't necessarily agree that 1500 mg is the minimum dosage required. I think everybody responds differently to the med. I myself was taking only 500 mg for awhile because I couldn't handle anything more. I finally went up to 850 mg but couldn't go up any higher than that. So I don't necessarily think that 500 mg is too low. It all depends on the person. I would just double check with your doctor to be sure. Perhaps s/he just wanted to see if you could handle it first.
