Long term steroid use can have some effects: osteoporosis and skin thinning come to mind. (I have one recurrent patient with translucent skin from 15 years of steroid use). Short term use can result in swelling, a puffy face, and it can knock blood sugars out of control. However, sometimes it is necessary for the short term or the long term. It's a matter of weighing the plusses and the minuses of each choice. You should talk with your physician or pharmacist about the possible effects. They will have more information than we do. Renee
