You don't have to have cysts on your ovaries to have PCOS so you definately still could have it but to make a positive diagnosis and prescribe medication without the right tests is not a good practice (and possibly inaccurate especially when insulin resistance is involved). You say you don't have irregular periods, or cysts and were able to get pregnant but you don't say what symptoms of PCOS that you DO have that led him to diagnose you. I'm just curious if you have any other symptoms?? If he ran the right tests, and correctly diagnosed IR - you could have PCOS even though there are no cysts.
