Xenical, cholesterol and insulin resistanceFrom: Cynthia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Aug 2001 12:39:08 -0500 (CDT)
My endocrinologist prescribed Xenical for my high cholesterol and insulin resistance. I was wondering if anyone has been given Xenical for these reasons and had good results with it? My insurance will not cover it because they do not cover weight loss drugs. They said my doctor would have to write a letter to them explaining that the drug was medically necessary for these conditions, then they would either approve or disapprove of covering the drug for those conditions. I just wanted to see if anyone has had any good results with the drug before I jump through all these hoops. In the meantime, my doctor has prescribed Metformin which is making me terribly nauseous. I hope this effect goes away soon. I have been taking it with meals, but a while after I eat, I get sick. The mornings are the worst. When I get up, I feel like I have bad morning sickness. The good thing is that Metformin has brought my blood sugar down. My blood sugar used to be around 150 to 200 when I went to bed at night. Now my blood sugar is between 90 and 120 before I go to bed at night. If anyone has taken Metformin and Xenical, please let me know which you prefer. Or if you have taken the drugs together, please let me know the results you have had. Thanks!
