Starting Glucophage XR - right dose?

I've been recently diagnosed with PCOS and will be staring Glucophage XR today even though my doctor did not do any glucose or meaningful insulin tests. I'm starting with 500 mg for a week, then 1000 mg all to be taken at bedtime. It does not say to take it with food, but many posts seem to say one should take it with food. I also have terrible & painful cystic acne for which I take 250 mg of erythromycin twice a day (which it is not helping at all). I take zyrtec and a prescription decongenstant for persistant allergies. I am also about 30lbs overweight and have classic PCOS hair patterns. My doctor did not say anything about my weight or diet.

Based on your experiences, does anyone see a problem with the above? I was about 45-50lbs overweight, but I have slowly dropped 15lb due to exercise and a few minor diet changes.

Thanks, Amanda
