What tests and medication should I be taking?From: Denise (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 25 Aug 2001 11:31:26 -0500 (CDT)
I have just been diagnosed with PCO. I haven't had a period for over a year and have gained about 20 pounds in that time. The consultant said I had the worst PCO he had ever seen when he checked the ultra-sound. He did some routine blood tests but was reluctant to do an insulin test. I have been getting some irregular bleeding and pelvic pain over the past few months - my cervical glands are very swollen and I am due for an urgent appointment with a consultant who deals with cervical problems. In the meantime I have been prescribed oral contraceptives which I am not happy about taking. I have always had excess body and facial hair which I have to take out daily with a tweezers and that can be annoying! I am going to see my own doctor next week and would like some advice on what sort of questions I should be asking with regards to tests and medication. Any advice would be appreciated as I am new to all this!
