New doctor, more questions.From: Muriel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Aug 2001 09:16:26 -0700
Hi Everyone, I think I finally found a doctor who knows what he's doing, but certain things made me raise my eyebrow in confusion, so I thought I would bring the issues up here. Firstly, he couldn't believe that my former ob/gyn never took any tests on me whatsoever, and I explained "well this is why I'm with you now and not him". So he set up the following list of tests, tell me if these sound normal to you: 1. Progesterone 2. TSH 3. Prolactin 4. Insulin Level 5. BUN 6. SGOT Some of these tests sound familiar to this mailing list, like the insulin test and the progesterone test, but the rest I have absolutely no idea. I told him that my previous ob/gyn had prescribed me 1000 mg of Glucophage a day for a month, and as far as I could tell nothing happened from it. My new dr. said he wanted to put me on 2000 mg. Is that too much? I was a bit worried about that. Finally, he said that I definetely should NOT go on another low carb diet while being on Glucophage because it does damage to your kidneys. The glucophage itself puts strain on the kidneys, and that along with low carb will definetely do damage. He recomended that I join Weight Watchers, and that the weight loss is slow thorugh WW, like 3 pounds a month, but this weight is more likely to stay off. The average is like 25-30 pounds a year. Frankly if i was 30 pounds light in a year I would be really damn happy. So I was wondering, is anyone here doing Weight Watchers? What's it like, and are you having any luck? Muriel Montgomery
