Hi - I think this PCOS is a really underdiagnosed and under recognised. I actually found out accidentally and not thanks to my ex-obe that I have it. I am sure we all have such stories. I saw a GP and she commented on my weight and when she referred me to an OBE for annual checks mentioned I should ask about PCOS. I was all out curious and decided to look this thing up. Well - didn't bells ring. Funny I had not considered that having a period once every six weeks that lasted only 1/2 day was abnormal and didn't think to worry about not ovulating (Obviously I am not trying to get pregnant yet) - or the fact that I can eat less than 1200 calories a day and exercise vigorously and not lose weight, or my stomach growing bigger with stretch marks while my weight was stable, pimples, gorila belly and thighs (didn't used to have) etc. OBE agreed to do hormone testing and ultrasound and despite "Polycystic ovaries" and a LH:FSH (is that the right order) ratio of 5.1 said I was normal and nothing to worry about..... and I wouldn't know if I had problems unless I got myself married and tried to start a family (Yeah sure - when I'm not ovulating! But she didn't listen to that). (Have a female friend and she is also an OBE - and familiar with PCOS - she confirmed my self-diagnosis) - still finding another dr - but drugs here can be OTC (I am in Phils) and have started taking drugs already under supervision of my friend.

Bottom line is we have to educate ourselves and our drs and stand up for ourselves and our health.
